I can’t understand why Dugan hangs out with Garrett, because he’s super intelligent. I like it when he and Ray-Ray get into serious discussions. They both love to read and they're always debating racial issues and theology. It's nice to overhear some intelligent conversation during mealtimes.

I think Dugan can be anything he wants to be, if he gets over this anger that’s always in him. Though I can’t say I blame him really. He’s a Black guy in a world where a Black guy’s life can be snuffed out any minute.

I guess I’d be angry a lot if I was a Black guy in this world.

Anyway, he needs to get away from Garrett. Far away. There's just something about him that makes me want to see him make it successfully through this program. He could really do something with his life—if, like people say, he turns his anger into a force for something good. Maybe I should figure out how that works.
